Morphological and biochemical characterization of mango (Mangifera indica L.) genotypes under high density planting system

Experiment on evaluation of mango genotypes under high density planting system was conducted in six varieties the same age group (5 years). The observation tree characters indicated that trunk circumference ranged from 20.51 cm (Prior) to 31.29 (Chandrakaran) and crown diameter 2.39 m (Ratna) 3.09 (Vellaikolumban). qualitative data morphological viz., tree, leaf, inflorescence, fruit, stone seed were grouped into clusters based IPGRI descriptor. leaf revealed blade length varied 19.17 (Muvandan) 25.40 (Ratna), width 4.84 7.68 (Vellaikolumban) petiole 2.29 4.18 Based inflorescence studied, it found 22.14 36.47 (Vellaikolumban), hermaphrodite flowers 33.40% 85.80% number stamens 3 4. fruit 7.49 18.71 (Mallika), 13.18 25.25 weight 8.93 g 24.69 yield per kg/tree shelf life fruits 4 6 days. observations Chandrakaran recorded lowest (5.58 cm), (3.36 thickness (1.23 (17.79 g) (4.05 cm). by Prior (3.07cm) Vellaikolumban (9.44 highest Mallika (11.67 Ratna (8.67 (2.19 (44.33 g), (22.22 (7.91 8.47 respectively). From analysis for assessing quality attributes different grown TSS 14.78 oBrix (Muvandan), acidity 0.02% (Mallika) 0.07% ascorbic acid 28.26 mg 100g-1(Vellaikolumban) 79.68 100g-1 (Chandrakaran), carotenoids 1.40 4.80 100 g-1 ß carotene 13.54 39.93 100g-1(Ratna). results sensory variety as best one rank colour, flavour, sweetness, texture taste, only appearance. Wide variability observed vegetative, floral, biochemical among genotypes.
